  • Fender Pro-Tone Strat

Just picked up a Fender Squire Pro-Tone Stratocaster Blonde. These are kind of the next collectable thing in the Fender line next to the MIJ/CIJ and E series. They Featured Alnico pups, reverse wound mid, steel blocks, full size pots, and ash bodies. If anyone is interested in more on these let me know, I can link you to a good site for info or just ask a question here. Condition was decent some parts, needed repair, like the tuner bushings and the orig owner left the dang plastic on the guard for along time robbing it of it's color, oh well. I'm gonna get a new one for it, orig was mint color; (I'm thinking maybe BlackAndBlonde sounds cool) any color suggestions ? I can't complian as I got it BIN for $200 and they regularly sell for over $300, so it was a good investment and sounds really good.

Congrats, that is very nice looking guitar. Seems to be a decent price too.

Someone was selling one locally on CL (a righty though) for $450. After about a month, I guess a few people emailed the seller and told him/her that the price was way to high. It escalated into a war of words for a couple of days on CL that was very entertaining.

What can I say, I'm easily amused.

Could you add the link to the site you referenced?

      Thanks and HNGD

Here's a link to some the shots when I had it apart and inside the guitar, if you find tuners with busted bushings (you know the little plastic piece under the turn knob, let me know I can tell you what guage and where to get the repair piece):

The MIK guards are so specific, I hope I can find one. There are none on ebay now for a match.

I was getting some of the plastic residue off with my finger, I think if I just work on it a little each day I should be able to get it off. Hopefully I can find one, even if I find one thats not the color I want, I can send that one off to them to get a black one done up ... I think I want it all one ply; not b/w/b ; more like a Gilmour-guard on his black strat. ; )

yeah, i'd say a black single ply bakelite guard would look the best

I was working part time at a local guitar shop when the Pro-Tones came out, and we had a lefty in stock so of course I bought it and it was one of the best Strats. Played great and the stock electronics sounded fantastic, which I believe the electronics and the hardware was all U.S.A. stuff. Any way great looking guitar.

Well it's not USA stuff, but full size 500K pots and alnico pickups do the trick ~!
The show of wood grains through the paint is super cool also with the blonde ... Thanks so much for the compliment, I feel very lucky to have found a real deal on one.
