    ESP S800 1990

I ordered this one in 1990, might have been '91. It was a custom order through Selectron UK, (I'm in Ireland). I basically picked the options I wanted from a checklist and paid my deposit and waited. If I remember correctly it took about four months to arrive.

Finish is transparent purple burst with gold Floyd and hardware, rosewood board with mop dot inlays, Tele style single master and tone controls, with EMG 89/coil tap switch, EMG SA/SA.

At the time I was really into Steve Lukather / Toto and I ordered this to try and get close to his Valley Arts signature models specs. This was my main gigging guitar at the time.

OFR = original floyd rose ? I'm sure it is, that thing cost an arm and a leg at the time ! The EMGs sound totally different to the Duncan Live Wires on the '93 Strat, they have a more mid range focused tone and sound compressed and less dynamic. The 89 in the bridge is active in bucker and single coil mode, I seldom used the bucker mode as the boost when engaged was too much, or so everyone told me ! It's a very versatile guitar indeed.

Does that have a recessed neck plate? That's badass!

                Thanks guys.

Yes I still have this one, it's been over twenty years now, doesn't time fly ! And yes the neck plate is recessed, the tuners are also staggered for height so there's no need for the metal bar behind the locknut to pull them down. The fingerboard radius is fairly flat, can't remember what I ordered, it's at least 12", probably flatter.

                  Nice! There it is!!
Me and BlueChurch were talking about this in the wee hours last night. This is one of my fav guitars on the forum, I really like this guitar alot! I couldnt remem the actual model name, I was thinking it was a Vintage series or one of the 400's. I'd love to have one of these some day. Thank you for bumping this thread so I could drool some more! Hahaha

There were lots of ESP Japan guitars in Dublin at the end of the eighties, one shop in particular had plenty of guitars with custom paint jobs, most with the Jackson headstock, the were very popular at the time. Strats, Teles and Les Paul were definitely out of fashion !

Check out some pages from the 1990 ESP export catalogue

Mine is very similar to the one shown in the second photo, on the left ( of course )

At the time I also got a price on a lefty version of the Horizon shown above, also in purple. It was verrrrry expensive, kinda wish I had gone for one though

And here's a link to older ESP catalogues ... http://www.espguitars.ru/catalog.html

( lots of guitar porn for you guys )
