  • Fender Hellcat Acoustic ?

    Got a dilema,

    Fender Acoustic's good or shite?

Am looking for a new acoustic so was reading guitar world mag( get some idea's )they reviewed the new sig guitar from fender( tim armstrong hellcat )
The specs are good, sounds like something a little bit different, affodable( seen price's from £260 to £330)and most important it's a lefty!!
So i go to a couple of guitar shops in london and ask about it.
3 of them say they dont stock fender acoustic's ,2 looked at me like i was asking them if there mum sold crack and the last guy was some what honest by saying they dont get stocked because all fender acoustic's are crap and the guitar mags bullshit you and theres not a market for them!
Any truth ta this, is he the one honest bloke to work in a guitar shop,Or talking a load of shit to sound important,
Would like ta know if anyone got one and tell me if its worth buying.

    Cheers \m/

I know they were advertised but I'm not sure they ever came out ... I've never seen one yet, except in the pre-order stage. Email Fender they will definitly answer your questions. [email protected]

I don't know if they're crap or not, but I own a Fender acoustic and am very fond of it. Mine is a warm sounding acoustic, not very bright but that might change. I purchased some Martin custom light (.011-.052) strings for another acoustic and I'm liking the feel and sound so I'm going to restring the Fender with the same strings.

It is a DG-31 so it is a solid top and plays extremely easy. Is it a Martin? No, but then again I paid a little over $100 for it used.

Heck I liked it so much that when I saw a second one available locally, I bought it. I held on to the 2nd one for a couple of years then decided it was silly as I never played it. Sold it for a bit of a profit.

If you are able to play one and like the sound and feel, purchase it. Don't let anyone else tell you what to buy.

      Good Luck

I've got a DC10 from the mid 80's. Still plays nice. However, I've been tempted by the Ibanez Exotic Wood series looks awesome. Here is a link to the righty version. http://www.zzounds.com/item--IBAEW20ZWE I've seen some cool lefties of these guitars, you just need to find them.

my first acoustic was a fender DG10 and it was a total POS but it did the job

i've played good fender acoustics but lefty ones are a tough find, their artist signature models are usually good though so that leads me to believe this would be a good playing axe but the cost is questionable

i guess what you should ask yourself is 1. do i really like the way this thing looks? and 2. how big of a fan of rancid am i?

1-yep, looks great, not over or under branded with rancid logos or armstong name etc, great that its a electro-acoustic,cool looking inlays,( i have 2 cats that like sitting on my amp and guitar case's,made me smile!!)and its a fender.

2-liked the old stuff better ( ruby soho etc ) transplants is a bit messy.
So i would be buying it more for what it is ,than who designed it

I just want to see one in front of me,it helps to make a choice if you can hold and play with it for a bit.
Sounds like i'am trying ta talk myself into buying it ,LOL

Chances are the only one you'll see in a store will be righty ... but maybe you can get an idea from it anyways. For as much as I play acoustic (not all that often)... it would serve me fine I think.

tony iommi, lefty, never seen his sig model in a store lefty, just righty (not even the epiphone)

kurt cobain, lefty, never seen his sig. model (jag-stang) lefty in a store, just righty

elliot easton, lefty, never seen his sig model in a store lefty or righty

jimi hendrix, lefty, fender doesnt make his sig. model in a lefty (but his sig model in righty is a left handed guitar that you could flip around and it would basically be and overpriced a 60's reissue strat with a holographic sticker on the pickguard

tim armstrong, lefty, didnt know he had a sig model until this thread and shocked it's a fender since he's always played gibsons

and i was never a big rancid fan, but i love op ivy
