Okay, so, the Strat has been restrung and played for a couple days. It's not so bad to play (scale wise). Pickup-wise it's a completely different sounding guitar than my SG, which is no surprise. I like the humbuckers in the SG better, though.

I went ahead tonight and placed the downpayment on a Carvin DC727. Waiting for it to be ready is going to be agonizing.

Meanwhile I need to take some with-strings pictures of the Strat so I can list it for sale.

Thanks man... it's a night and day difference for sure. I'm waiting on the strings I ordered to get here (tomorrow) and then I will restring it and play it. Then, more pictures and it goes up for sale.

    A fine looking specimen, sir.

Did I mention I still have the original ziplock baggy it came with, complete with tags, trem bar, paperwork, etc; as well as a Fender gig bag? I don't think I did.

Only thing I don't still have is the Fender sticker. I sold that on eBay in a lot with a bunch of other stickers years ago.

Having all the other stuff has to count for something though, right? haha

Yesterday I stopped by Ace Hardware and picked up some 3-in-1 oil and 0000 grade steel wool. I then set out for some heavy duty cleaning. I spent several hours (slightly distracted, as I was watching a movie at the same time) giving the bridge and screws a good once over.

The end result, is well... nearly 100% better than what I started with. Not 100% of the rust is gone but it looks a ton better. A night and day difference.

Makes sense. Yeah, it's definitely looking better since I've put some work in it.

The bridge and related hardware still have a little rust left on them after 2 nights in Diet Coke. I'm gonna give them another night and scrub with a toothbrush.

I haven't tried polishing them yet, no. I need to pull them all out of the guitar before I do it, though. The saddle screws are the worst though because they were 100% exposed.

Well, I just killed some time this evening working more on restoring the Strat.

I did some research online on how to clean up the frets, and as it turns out, ordinary silver polish did wonders.

Pictures are, as they say, a thousand words, so in order, the pics are as follows:

    1. Wide shot of frets before before: link
    2. Closeup shot of frets before: link
    3. Closeup of before/after on adjacent frets: link
    4. Wide shot of frets after: link

5/6 - Example pictures of other things I need to clean up. It might be easier to replace the screws than trying to clean them: link
