  • Need help regarding MIM Strat

I need help from someone with knowledge regarding mid '90's strats.

I've been following this auction and a couple of things don't look right to me.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=380137068727

For starters, the P/G is a single ply. I haven't seen an MIM strat that doesn't have a 3 ply P/G. Isn't that what is used on Squiers?

The Fender logo on the headstock is solid black. Other '90's strats that I've seen have the silver logo w/black trim.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Re: Strat

There was a time during fender when the moved the production from Japan F/J. where both Squier and Fender were made in mexico. But Squier moved to Korea in 90 so, this should'nt have been a Squier from the same plant. I have this headstock on mine and mine is a MN6 aka '96 (I've had it since new). These usually have the Chinese covered tuners not the gotoh copies which came later. Was the body married to the neck ? ... hard to know (I can weigh mine if you want). The Mexi bodys of the time were alder. The headstock decal is ok for the period.

Mines nice but I did upgrades to it, the rosewood is real nice on these smallish fret-wire.

        Thanks B:

I was hoping the bidding would stay down, but when you get new people with 0 (zero) feedback, the bidding seems to increase. When I calculate his shipping costs, it becomes less of a possibility that I'll bid. It was $70 shipping to me which is a bit steep. I just got back from FedEx where I shipped a guitar out (no case though) for $22.

The sgl ply P/G is what really concerned me. It looked exactly like my sons' Squier. Here is a photo:

Maybe next time, it's not like I need another strat

In the one pic the saddles looked incorrect, but from another angle I think they were right. So hard to tell w/o good shots. It was most likely fine, maybe swap pickguard perhaps just preferred that look. Finding the deal is good for older MIM. But the new ones are really liked by those I've seen talk about them. Maybe wait and see what 2010 brings ..

the mim quality is going nowhere but up

            i have a 2000 strat and a 2005 tele

my tele's neck outplays any neck i've played from the earlier mim models

and the road worn necks outplay my tele's neck

i'm also excited to see what 2010 brings, maybe a mim jazzmaster available left handed?

Fat chance. Didn't you get the memo? Left-handed people don't play jazz OR surf.
