View Full Version : 2011 Lefty Guitar Trader custom guitar raffle!

Jesse

Alright fellow evilpaws, we got ourselves a little raffle that is coming together. Big thanks to our one and only otterhound for offering up a custom made guitar as the prize to this raffle.

Before I officially set everything up, I would like to gauge interest in such a contest. We would probably sell 1,000 chances and tie it to a state daily 3 number lottery so the winner is completely up to chance. Each entry (of 1,000) would have a fixed price ($1-2 dollars) and you can buy as many chances as you want.

Proceeds first and foremost go to otterhound to offset the price of the guitar, the rest goes directly into Lefty Guitar Trader for operating/re-design costs.

Interested?

Alright good to see interest. We're going to sell 1 chance for $1 as it is our first contest and the site is still picking up steam. Once me and otter hammer out the details we will open the tickets for purchase. Otter and I will select a state 3 number lottery to go with, and we'll take it from there. Numbers will be given out in order based on time request was received. You can buy as many chances as you like, or just one. 000-999

Winner will get the guitar shipped right to them. We will probably have a LGT.com logo applied and possibly the year and contest engraved. Winner has to do a front page review of the guitar, and add video/sound if that member has a cam/recording equipment. Winner also has to have a valid address, we cannot ship to PO Boxes...so if that is how you roll find someone we can ship it to for ya.

All purchases will go through paypal I suppose.

Planning is nearly done, stay tuned and rock on.

Poffypoffa
02-26-2011, 04:49 PM
Is there a way to roll the numbers randomly? That is, if I buy 10, I don't particularly want 10 consecutive numbers, though I realize there's no mathematical reason to say so...

bob_amos

I am going to take this moment to thank everyone that will be taking part in this in any way .
My reasons for offering this to Jesse and LGT are twofold .
First is to help generate some funds to assist Jesse in funding this forum .
Second is shameless self promotion .
Let's make this thing a success for LGT .
I will be having a hand painted LGT logo and 2011 added to the headstock in my favorite color , Yellow . It surely will stand out against the Walnut .
Also , a special thank you to Jesse for allowing this to happen .
Someone is going to end up with a very special guitar .

no, it's still on....I just did a main page article on it. I'm just hammering out details and figuring out which lottery to use and how to generate numbers. Once it is open, I want interested parties to email me and then paypal the money they wish to use to enter the contest. I will assign numbers based on the time of receipt of the PM.

Had a thought about this yesterday.. I am wondering how long it will take to sell 1000 spots? That is a lot of tickets for a small group like we have here. Could be a good way to invite new members to the forum. More members = more activity!! That could be a good thing for all of us.

I think the tickets will sell extremely fast. I plan on buying 999 myself (hey, it's good to have dreams).

I feel there will be many new members that will join just for the opportunity to purchase a great guitar for a reduced price, and not all of them will be lefties, if you catch my drift.

I'm hoping that Jesse will inform present members first of the impending sale, maybe via email so that none of the regulars gets shut out, plus not everyone on the site visits daily.

And I plan on buying that remaining one. Mike and I agreed I would take the guitar if either of us wins. Cuz it'd clash with all his strats.

I'm going to jump in here . I hope that Jesse doesn't mind . Since it appears that I will be shipping this guitar directly , I wish to be clear that overseas shipping will be at the cost of the recipient , please . If you are overseas and planning to get in on this , you should check into duties . Some nations do not charge duty on musical instruments from what I have been told . This does not apply to Canada , in case you were wondering .
Domestic shipping will be at no extra cost .
I am expecting to have the lettered headstock on Monday . Once I have my photo loading problem dealt with , I will post some photos . It will carry LGT 2011 markings .
I am hoping that Jesse will start a dedicated thread for the numbers . We sold out 1,000 chances over at another site on one of these last year in less than 30 days .
Let's see some support for this website out there .

Otter, that is what I was thinking when I refered to new membership. Let's hope it's a lefty that wins and also that we can keep the new members, or at least a good number, and generate more activity here. Nothing better for a forum than lots of activity.

just to let everyone know, for international shipping, you have to check on what is required to bring it in to your country.

In Canada, for example, there is no duty to bring the guitar in, but there is however, taxes that need to be paid, based on the value. In that case, HST or the Hamonized Sales Tax is applied at 13% of the value of the item. So its not free, that's for sure.

Jesse
03-07-2011, 09:02 AM
once the purchasing opens...you send me an email and then paypal me the amount of money for tickets you wish to send. In the order that I receive the money I will assign numbers from the random number generator. I will generate the numbers once and just go down the list.

Hey guys, does anyone know of a place better to put the money than paypal? Apparently paypal sticks a pretty hefty fee (9%) on money being sent to me ($0.45 for a $5.00 payment, for example).

I wish that I had an answer for you .

62LeftyBlues
03-09-2011, 10:34 PM
At this point maybe the tickets have to go for $1.50 each versus the $1 to offset the paypal charge and let Otterhound re-coup his costs. Just an idea-

bob_amos
03-09-2011, 11:23 PM
As much as I hate to say this, PayPal is the most accessible means to exchange money. Even at 9% what does the end results, as in profit, come to? Is it still worth the effort? It probably should be but I don't know the numbers. You and Otter may need to put those together and see if the results is enough to fit your needs.

I think that is different for international members, i.e. not in the US ... >> Canada, Europe, Australia. Could be wrong though, I tried to pay someone in the US using the personal tab and Paypal was still looking for fees. International Paypal members get to pay extra anyway, currency conversion etc.

Sorry for a stupid question at this late date....I don't keep cash in my PP acct, so I would like to remit payment via a Credit Card through PP (and maybe others would like to also), would it be alright add an extra 10% to the cost to cover the difference? I don't want, nor do I think you shouls be paying any fees. Plus you might make a few extra bucks to help with shipping, etc.

As an example; if I wanted 50 tickets, I would PP you $50 + $5 for a total of $55.
If I wanted 100 tickets, I would PP you $100 + $10 for a total of $110.
And so on.

Email Jesse at Jesse at guitar trader . com (remove the spaces in there, you know the drill) with how many tickets your getting and how much cash your sending by paypal (send money under the personal tab so Jesse doesn't get railed on Paypal fees), and then send the money to the same email address! Should be the second TAB to the left that says; [Send Money] type who you want to send that money to [jesse @ leftyguitartrader . com] (delete spaces!), state amount, hit [Personal], tag [Gift]. Don't forget to choose to pay all costs your end.

That's how it works for me anyway.

If your PP account is linked to your credit card you can just send the money, no need to have any $$$ in your PP account. Your bank will pay PP. The amount will appear in your CC statement in a few days time and you then pay your CC bill as usual.

If no one (81 unsold) we go to tomorrow's EVENING drawing and so forth until we have a winner. I have to run out now, I did a quick search and I don't think 930 was anyone.

I am always building . I could build one for you any time . My next lefty in the works is bookmatched Walnut over chambered Silver Maple with a 1/4 sawn Walnut neck and 1/4 sawn Maple board . I think the different colored woods will give it a unique appearance . I harvested all of this wood .

Well played saufen .
I also want to take this moment to thank Jesse for allowing me the opportunity do this .
I hope that saufen is pleased with his $25.00 investment .
My only regret is that I will not be able to deliver her in person . You see , I derive considerable enjoyment from things like that .
I also want to thank everyone that took part in this fund raiser for helping to keep a worthwhile site funded .
I am expecting to see the case in the next day or two and saufen could be receiving his new toy very shortly thereafter , possibly even this week .
Thank you one and all .

Next item: I would like to nominate this guitar for the spring cover of LGT!! I know it's late, I know you're weary, I know your plans don't include......wait going off on a tangent again, honestly I think Mr. Eyman's masterpiece deserves to be on page one.
